Play therapist’s parenting experience and meanings in parent counseling : based on play therapist’s practical experience

Abstract

|
This study aims to find out play therapist`s parenting experience and meanings in Parent counseling. For that purpose, the data were analyzed using qualitative research. Three play therapists who were interviewed in depth on their parenting experience and experience in parent counseling. All of three participants in this study worked as a play therapist for more than 10 years. The followings are the results of this study. Experiences in parent counseling of play therapist who have parenting experience includes ``The difference between counseling and parenting``, ``Viewing the closest point of empathy: deepening empathy``, ``Changes in the aspect of parents`s anger``, ``Shifting of gaze in parent counseling : From child to mother``, and ``Helping parents with vivid advices``. Based on the aforementioned results, the researcher interpreted three meanings as follow. Participants in this study discover ``Keeping the boundary of empathy as a play therapist``, ``To recognize the limits of a play therapist : through their parenting experience`` and ``Go with parents: Becomming companion``.
